Welcome to Halloween Past. Here are some rather
disturbing pics of some of our past haunts from 1993 to 1997. It's obvious we
were beginners, but we had that Halloween spirit! The first pics from 1993 are
from our first apartment. Without much room, we still put forth the effort and
created the ghost display in the front window. Our neighbors thought we were
nuts. Leslie and I dressed as "Vampire Victim" and "Satan."
The following year of 1994 we built our
first Grim Reaper for the front window. Spookycat was in attendance. We also
managed to persuade a couple of our friends into coming over to join in the
festivities. Oscar And Michele dressed as "Wednesday Addams" and "Nerdboy," and
I'm sure they're very happy about having themselves displayed on this Website!
Being in the middle of the city, we didn't have many trick-or-treaters, so we
had to eat all of the candy ourselves. In 1995 we moved to a different
apartment. Unfortunately, we have no pictures at all from this location (the
place was a pit), but we did put up the previous year's Reaper display.
1996 was the year we said
"goodbye" to Marin County and we moved to Folsom, a much better community for
Halloween-friendly folk. We moved in with Leslie's very understanding parents,
and began haunting their home. With much more room to work, the possibilities
for more elaborate haunts were developing. The 1996 haunt was simple and
uncomplicated. Only a few gravestones and crosses accented the yard, the Reaper
was put on display in the front window, and we stuffed a dummy and pinned it to
the garage wall with my car. People loved the car wreck, and any year that we
don't display it people ask about it.
1997 was a little more advanced. We purchased the
"Black Knight" prop for a really good discount price, built better gravestones,
used dry ice for fog effects, added some sound effects and lighting, and
brought the Reaper out by the front door. Leslie and I were the resident
"Gravediggers", and we were joined by Evil Joey and our good friend Keoni.
Keoni, if you're out there, for God's sake, turn yourself
in!!
I've displayed these
pictures to show that everybody has to start somewhere, and I think our
projects have improved greatly over the years (they certainly couldn't have
gotten worse). |
